Intuitive eating includes making peace with food. Making peace with food requires getting rid of the "good," "bad," "healthy," and "not healthy" food labels. Getting rid of food labels means that there are no moral attachments to food. You are not "good" for eating carrots and "bad" for eating a piece of cake. Food becomes "just food." When your body trusts that you will give it unconditional permission to eat any food, cravings and thoughts about food decrease.
Just like paintbrushes come in all shapes and sizes, so do human bodies. Our bodies are tools and vehicles that allow us to experience our life. We live in a world that tells us we need to look a certain way in order to be successful, healthy, happy, loved, etc. Men, women, girls, and boys engage in torturous behaviors to try and fit this unrealistic "ideal." When in reality, success, health, happiness, and love are available to us no matter our size. Radically accepting our bodies and learning to show our bodies gratitude and respect no matter our size will allow us to live life to its fullest.
Recovering from an eating disorder or a poor relationship with food and body is possible. Every recovery journey looks different. The journey will be full of ups and downs. It will not look perfect. It will require honesty, accountability, and doing things differently. How you respond to the ups and downs will be a critical part of your recovery journey.
